About Shurwayne Winchester
Born on the beautiful Caribbean island of Tobago, Shurwayne Winchester was only 12-years old when he entered the competition foray, consistently placing in the top three.
Shurwayne performed in a number of fledging bands on the Tobago and Trinidad scene before landing the contract as a frontline singer for one of the top Soca bands, Caribbean Traffik Jam. His first recording was made in 1998, with the tracks “Leave it in” and “Soca Baby” with Traffik.
1999 saw Shurwayne back in competition this time, the sweet voiced singer entered the hugely competitive “Soca Monarch” stakes and this laid the foundation for his later dominance of this very competition. A year later he was awarded “Best New Artist” and “Male Vocalist of the Year” at the 2000 Sunshine Music Awards, New York.
By 2004, Shurwayne was fast becoming a force to be reckoned with on the local Trinidad & Tobago scene. His first and memorable Road March song “The Band Coming” was produced and Shurwayne walked away with three awards at the Annual Soca Awards held in New York. Shurwayne did it again in 2005, winning the Road March title two years in a row with his infectious track “Dead or Alive”.
Shurwayne’s star continued to shine in 2006 when he created history by becoming the first person ever to win both the Power Soca Monarch and Groovy Soca Monarch competitions of the prestigious International Soca Monarch Competition, with his massive hits “Can’t Wait” and “Don’t Stop” respectively. These two powerful songs were off the album that best described Shurwayne’s career at that time – “Evolution”. Moving from strength to strength, Shurwayne Winchester continues to ignite audiences across the world with his special brand of adrenalin.
